My Reiki Onion is an account of my personal journey of deep inner healing with Reiki.

What is a Reiki Onion?
Peeling an onion is often compared to inner healing, with each layer symbolising a negative experience that can be recognised and resolved. These suppressed feelings are often postponed for future resolution, with procrastination impeding effective management.
Feelings of anxiety can also perpetuate this cycle of delay.
Prior to Reiki, I often deferred addressing these concerns until I felt prepared, ultimately contributing to diminished personal well-being and a sense of merely existing rather than truly living.
Thankfully, my Reiki practice of adopting the five Reiki Precepts into my daily living has been instrumental for my healing journey.
Holding onto Anger
Recently, I experienced a significant personal challenge following a disagreement with a close family member.
Although maintaining anger conflicted with the first precept of Reiki, I initially found myself holding onto these emotions.
Upon deeper reflection, I recognised unresolved feelings of insecurity emerging within me. This experience represented an important stage in my healing process, as it allowed me to confront underlying issues and approach them with greater self-awareness. I successfully removed another layer of my Reiki onion.
Five Reiki Precepts
- Just for today, I will not anger
Holding on to anger is creating dis-ease. If you are holding on, ask yourself why and listen to your higher-self. - Just for today, I will not worry
Continual ruminating or catastrophising is amplifying negative feelings. Move forward by taking small manageable steps to regain control. - Just for today, I will be grateful
Be in the present and practice gratitude. Surround yourself with pure, loving energy so that you can see and feel what’s good in life. - Just for today, I will do my work honestly
Love what you do and be present! - Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing
Reiki opens pathways to deeper self-understanding and spiritual connection. Cultivating kindness, love, and compassion for all including yourself, is what Reiki teaches us to do and feel.
Practical Takeaway:
You do not have to be attuned to Reiki to complete this practical takeaway. Further study of the Reiki Precepts is undertaken throughout each level of Reiki training.
- Place your hands into prayer position. In Reiki, we call this ‘gassho‘
- Recite out loud the first Reiki precept, ‘just for today, I will not anger‘
- Pause to reflect on how you resonate with it at this very moment in time
- Repeat this process for each precept above
- Finish by acknowledging any inner healing work that needs to be done.
