When the Wheel of Fortune appears in my tarot reading, it prompts reflection on my progress managing anxiety and the improvements in my current quality of life. Today’s journal explores my journey with this card and I hope that you find it useful.

Firstly, I enjoy performing daily, a three-card tarot reading to explore my shadow self as part of my self-therapy. As a result, I can create a more balanced perspective of who and what I am.
In today’s fast paced society, I personally find it easy to get beaten down by the negative energy that is fully consuming. Within a few days of neglecting my self-care, I feel the wrath of anxiety beginning to grow within and it is my alarm bell to get myself grounded. It’s not that I deliberately neglect my self-care. Life just gets in the way sometimes.
Navigating change with the Wheel of Fortune
So, yesterday, I drew the Wheel of Fortune in the position of my past that is currently influencing me. Today, it appears in my present situation and feelings, which was initially a surprise. Upon further investigation however, it shows how I am in a flux of profound change.
There is no getting away from the fact that life can be a continual struggle. How we face these challenges is key to our happiness and overall wellbeing.
Can you go with the flow?
Plenty of people advise you to ‘go with the flow’, but this isn’t easy at all, especially when you’re fearful of something happening. If I didn’t have a regular self-care routine, i.e. committing to it daily, I wouldn’t be writing this now or living the life that I once dreamed of. I cannot stress the importance enough of having a daily self-care routine and committing to it.
The Wheel of Fortune is foretelling this struggle of life and recognising that we are always going to face challenges. We are all going to have our up days and bad days. This is life in motion, but our challenge is to recognise this journey and keep our being centred and whole.
Previously, and many moons ago now, I was continually fighting the Wheel of Fortune.
I was locked in a continual spiral of fight and flight, and I was most certainly afraid of going with the flow. In fact, if someone had suggested back then that I go with the flow, I probably would have told them where to go, and that’s putting it mildly. If I didn’t tell them that, I would instead beat myself up with the most terrible, hurtful words and feelings hence, further digging my inescapable hell hole and drowning in it.
Can you put the Wheel of Fortune in motion?
I would say 90% of the time I am going with the flow, thanks to the Wheel of Fortune. I don’t think it is possible for anyone to be fully going with the flow every minute of the day. If it was possible, how would we learn how to cope?
My primary thought when I see this card appear is, ‘if I am afraid to go forward, I will not open any doors’!
If I am allowing irrational fear to stop me from doing something that I am yearning for, then I will not be reaping my rewards. By quashing my intuition or ideas and fighting life’s challenges, I am simply creating more internal chaos, i.e. amplifying my anxiety.

Referring back to my current wheel of fortune card, I have previously put something in motion, and it is continuing today. I most definitely need to stay grounded while navigating my current life situation.
I’ve recently began performing inner child healing due to sending healing energy back to my childhood. What initially began as an explorative look at using Reiki has put in motion the release of uncomfortable feelings. Also, they surfaced in a nightmare that left me scared to go back to sleep.
I recently wrote a journal titled, ‘The Reiki Onion’ that details the layers of suppression that are unveiled during a healing process. Well, I’m well and truly in this process while healing childhood trauma.

Concluding the Wheel of Fortune
Thankfully, I am learning that my childhood experience is at the root of my fear of the future.
When I’m feeling vulnerable and especially at the mercy of others, I begin to procrastinate and grow my feelings of impending doom. These feelings can manifest in ways such as imposter syndrome or anxiety. Thankfully, I do recognise within days if I am succumbing to negative feelings controlling my life.
Exploring my past allows me to see the truth of a situation. Mainly, I am in control now and I can manifest the life I want. I am not wholly reliant on the mercy of a ‘monster’.
Looking at the doors that I have opened to get myself to where I am now is also motivating. I know that I wouldn’t be here today if I had stayed in my hell hole of anxiety.
Navigating changes and there are significant changes in the world today that are affecting all of us, is a challenge. However, if not accepting that such challenges and times are temporary, then there is no hope for our future.
Whatever wheels I put into motion today, is what I will experience in my future. As the saying goes, ‘you reap what you sow’.
