Do you listen to your inner voice and nurture it, or do you feed and nurture your ego?

Stop feeding your ego and listen to your inner voice

It’s an important question to ask especially when you’re struggling with aspects of your life. It’s time to start listening to your inner voice, especially if you’re experiencing any of the following: –

  • When you’re feeling stuck in a rut
  • Things are continually going wrong
  • You’re suffering with your mental health for example, anxiety or depression.

Your Ego’s Role

Your ego creates a sense of fear in a desperate bid to protect you from harm. It’s behaving in a natural manner as it acts as your failsafe. However, it’s important to remember that you’re the one who can assess the truth of the situation. Ultimately, you have a choice.

Do you feed and nuture your ego by allowing fear to control you, or do you put your fear into perspective by challenging it?

I’m talking about those times when you have a gut feeling to do something. Perhaps you have a yearning to better yourself and little inner you is telling you to do it. Then your Ego mind kicks in with telling you that you might fail or you’re not good enough yet. Ultimately, you have a mini war going on inside of you and with that, you start feeling overwhelmed or anxious.

Listen to your inner voice

If you know what I’m talking about, I also have a tried and tested solution for you to try. Simply sit down, breathe calmly and listen to your inner voice.

Firstly, what is it asking or pleading with you to do?

Secondly, what IS the worst thing that WILL happen if you do listen to your inner voice?

By asking yourself the above questions, you begin regaining control of your life.

Far too often, people come to me for my services, with their feelings of anxiety and depression. Their life is sometimes in tatters or worse still, they’re suffering terribly. I feel their pain as I’ve been in the same position with experiencing general anxiety disorder. At some point though, you have to challenge your fear.

If your answer to the above question begins with ‘probably‘ or ‘this might happen‘, your fear is illusionary. In other words, it’s not real! Sometimes this action alone is enough to regain control and get on with things. If not, it’s time to do some planning.

How can you avoid or lessen the impact of what you fear happening?

I’M LIVING MY DREAM!

I’m not too worried about my future, but if I was continually feeding my ego, things would be a lot different.

These days, I’m in control and making reliable decisions. However, if things do go wrong, I’m flexible and I can adapt easily. I’m more inclined to go with the flow and I’m managing my anxiety well. I am no longer controlled by my fear. In fact, I’m grateful for my ego’s protection.

I have balance in my life as I choose to listen to my inner voice. This is the part of me that I’m choosing to love and nurture. Gone are the days when I told myself that I should have followed my gut instinct.

The final answer is to listen to your inner voice

When Mr Ego strikes with his fear mongering and induces my sometimes very harsh critical self-talk, I look inwards to find my inner voice, my inner strength and I smile.

It took me a while to build my inner strength, to get me to a point in life where I FEEL LIFE and I enjoy living.

Gosh! At one time I would never have imagined myself saying that.

Don’t get me wrong, we all have our bad days, me included, but I FEEL IT and then I shrug it off.

It’s important to challenge these feelings of fear and dread so that you don’t allow them to hold you back. Also, instead of focusing on the sh*t, focus on the good stuff. Instead of thinking what else is going to go wrong, have a think of what can go well?

Every obstacle or challenge we face in life is a positive learning experience. Seriously, take a look at what went well and what you can take forward to help you in your future. Life doesn’t stand still because you had a bad or traumatic experience. Of course, healing takes time and everyone is different with the time it takes, but those who decide to feed and nurture their inner voice, are the ones who will grow. Life simply doesn’t stand still!

Be guided by your inner voice

Your first step to a brighter future is to build your inner strength by loving and nurturing your inner voice. As a result, your self-love will ooze out and you will be amazed when things start going well for you. This is because how you feel, is what you attract.

Choosing to listen to your inner voice and allow yourself to be guided by it, will build your inner strength.

Remember by asking yourself the question below, you begin regaining control of your life.

What IS the worst thing that WILL happen if you do listen to your inner voice?

I can’t tell you how many people are scared of challenging their fear. By not asking this question, you’re inadvertently feeding and nurturing your Ego. Your denying yourself out of loving life!

So, who do you choose to listen to, Mr Ego or your inner voice?
